CLASS
1 - "Build a Better Pyramid"
Kids and their
parents learn how to plan better meals using the Food Guide Pyramid.
Emphasis is placed on portion size and numbers of servings per food
group. The "Family Activity and Goals" sheet helps to keep
every family member on target.
CLASS
2 - "Eating the Healthy Way"
Fad diets
and how fad diets can be unhealthy is the theme of this class. Scheduled
meal times and snacks are emphasized and a hunger/eating scale is introduced
to help kids rate how they feel after eating dinner every night.
CLASS
3 - "Fit Kids"
This class emphasizes
the importance of drinking water and being more active. Kids are encouraged
to talk about why they think exercise is important and discuss the
benefits of physical activity.
CLASS
4 - "Fat Fingerprints"
"Fat Fingerprints"
is a fun class where kids actually make fat fingerprints from food.
Fat vials are used to show the kids how much fat is in fast food.
A trip to a fast food restaurant challenges kids to order wisely using
what they have learned in "Way To Go Kids!" classes.
CLASS
5 - "Label Investigation - Give Me the Facts !"
Kids are taught
the art of reading and understanding food labels. Kids look at the
serving size, calories etc. and talk about several examples in class.
CLASS
6 - "It's Party Time!"
This class takes
a look at kid's activities which often involve food. The kids build
a behavior chain and discuss what happens at a party when they hang
around the refreshment table too long. Situations and reactions are
discussed to help kids plan a strategy before they overeat at a party.
CLASS
7 - "Healthy Attitude"
A class designed
to examine media messages, this class takes a look at what the media
says to kids about how they should look. Kids are encouraged to have
a good attitude about their body and to talk about the things they
like about themselves.
CLASS
8 - "A Way You Go"
The final class
summarizes what the kids have learned and encourages them to keep
on with their new healthy habits. Emphasis is placed on setting goals
and maintaining an active lifestyle. A graduation party can be held
with healthy snacks the kids have picked out or prepared for the class
to enjoy.
Each class includes
handouts, goals, recipes, and plenty of fun and learning.
The program
